The Culture of Feather Boas
Although similar to the way a scarf is worn around the neck, feather boas typically have a fluffier texture and is of course, comprised of feathers. The use of feather boas as a clothing accessory date back to the 1800s. They are perfect for costumes involving historical eras, including the style of the 1920s flapper period. Feather boas saw a revival during the disco and glam rock era of the 1970s, which led into the 80s. Celebrities who have been recognized for wearing feather boas include singer Shirley Bassey and wrestlers Hulk Hogan and Jesse Ventura. Elton John and Mae West are also two notable wearers of feather boas during their time. Feather boas emerged once again the the late 90s with rockers Scott Weiland and Gerard Way sporting it as a fashion statement.
Aside from celebrities, feather boas are also seen in other aspects of culture, such as with historic re-enactment societies or around such holiday seasons like Halloween and Mardi Gras.
Feather Hat Bands
Our Western style feather hat bands include two without a crown and one with the crown. These feather hat bands feature pheasant feathers. The feather hat band is a decorative accessory that wraps around the hat, just above the brim. A great way to enhance an already stylish hat is by adding the band. These are quite popular for cowboy and Western hats. Aside from feathers, other materials that can be used as a feather hat band accessory are leather or fabric strips. These can be braided and then decorated with feathers of all kinds. Another decorative idea is to glue beads, small medallions or other craft items onto the hat band. If you like to wear many different hats, this will be a fantastic opportunity to get creative with crafts, feathers and head wear in general.
Along with your hat, your father hat bands should receive adequate care and storage when not worn. Cats and dogs in particular are known to demolish these feather boas, whether it is be claws or teeth.
